Use Movies to Learn How to Save Money and Escape to Financial Freedom!

The one movie you have to watch to learn how to manage your resources to break free from the endless prison of bills, drained bank accounts and huge credit card balances is The Great Escape.  Consider it a master class of free educational tools in saving for financial freedom.

No other Hollywood epic so accurately portrays the ingenuity and effort individuals will muster to break free from captivity.  Imagine your own situation.  Are you a POW, a Prisoner Of Work?  Living from pay check to pay check?  The guards are management, the cells are offices, the tunnels are years of service and the safe haven of neutral Switzerland is your pension plan.

Do you want to change your present situation?  All you have to do is watch this movie and it is all there, the inspiration, the instructions and the plan of action to carry out your own Great Escape.

MarketBOB's Money Rule #1: It Is Your Duty As A POW To Escape

There is a charming scene near the start of the movie where the German Camp Commander suggests to Richard Attenborough that the POW's should just sit out the war in comfort.  Forget about escape, it is impossible.  Attenborough reminds the German that it is every soldier's sworn duty to attempt to escape.  That is tremendous advice.  Be smart, be prepared but be willing.  Without the will, there is no escape, no hope of freedom.

Remember, however, in the Great Escape, only three men escaped.  Hundreds tried and only three men made it to freedom.  James Coburn, Charles Bronson and some other guy.  Not very good odds.  Fifty were shot as a lesson to others.

The point to remember is that somebody made it.  Forget the odds because somebody always makes it.  It might as well be you.  Watch and learn.  Take action.  Be smart and be willing.

MarketBOB's Money Rule # 2: Dig Three Tunnels, Not Just One.

The men built three tunnels: Tom, Dick and Harry.  Experience had taught the officers that tunnels are risky and once discovered, hard to start over.  You have to think the same.  If your escape plan relies on one tunnel, you could be in danger of exposure.  You have to diversify, manage risk and keep several options open for your escape.

So, if you're a POW (Prisoner Of Work), don't keep bouncing the ball against the wall.  Decide to escape and get planning to dig those three tunnels.
